Mesmer

2013
Mesmer is a simple processing sketch that displays the face of an mystic, who falls in and out of a hypnotic state based up the loudness of the sound input provided through the system microphone. Using simple spiral algorithms, a variable gradient background, system clock input, a purple and gold colour scheme and a pendulum on a circular motion path, a hypnotic look-and-feel is achieved. The intended accompanying music is Dreamer’s “Thematic”, chosen for its haunting xylophone melodies, Middle-Eastern undertones and segments of clear contrast between loud and low volumes. Coded in the Java programming language on the Processing platform as part of MDDN242 at Victoria University of Wellington, School of Design.
