Footprint

2014
Footprint was the final deliverable of a brief to promote the Abel Tasman National Park at the top of the South Island, New Zealand. As a team of network engineers and media designers, we created an Android application that allowed its users to dynamically plan, organise and optimise their days spent in the Park. A fictional backend database was created and populated with 'events', which could be queried from the app and added to the current itinerary. Weather information, (a key factor in the success of any outdoor event), could be easily referenced with a swipe to the left, in order to best inform the user. Finally, events and captured media could be shared to popular social networks, such as Facebook. The application was built using the PhoneGap platform. This enabled front-end web coding, in HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript to be converted into an Android APK. The interactions recorded in the documentation video below were captured using a Samsung Galaxy S4. This project was a collaboration between students in the Schools of Engineering and Design at Victoria University of Wellington, as part of the MDDN352 - Ubiquitous Computing and NWEN304 - Advanced Network Applications courses. With thanks to: Andrew Lensen, Michael Baird, Majid Daghagheleh and Lena Voegele.
